Overview

About this device

Announced 6 years after the Valve Index (2019), Steam Frame is Valve's second VR headset release. Steam Frame is the company's first standalone headset release, featuring an integrated Snapdragon processor running SteamOS, a Linux distribution based on Arch. This is the same OS that the Steam Deck, Valve's first handheld console runs, giving the headset a broad compatibility with games available on the Steam platform. Steam Frame can be used to play standalone VR titles, but it also features a wireless adapter to provide a seamless VR streaming experience from a source PC. The adapter provides a 6 GHz wireless connection for VR and non-VR streaming, with two connections, one for streaming and one for normal WiFi traffic, preventing general network usage from affecting the wearer's VR streaming bandwidth Steam Frame was leaked following a listing on Komodo Station, a Valve hardware distributor for the Asian market. Information about the headset, including its name and images of the product were found unlisted on the site for a brief period prior to the device's official announcement
