Triangle Factory Unveils Breachers: Outbreak - Zombie Extraction Shooter Coming to VR
The studio behind Hyper Dash and Breachers is bringing zombies to the franchise with a four-player co-op extraction shooter.

Right, so Triangle Factory have properly thrown a curveball today. The studio that brought us the fast-paced arena shooter Hyper Dash back in 2021 and the tactical 5v5 shooter Breachers in 2023 (not to mention the recently released Forefront in 2026) has just announced they're diving back into the Breachers universe with something completely different. Say hello to Breachers: Outbreak, a four-player online co-op zombie extraction shooter that's coming to both VR and flatscreen.
What's the Deal Then?
Extraction shooters have been absolutely massive in the flatscreen world lately, and now Triangle Factory are having a proper crack at bringing that formula to VR with a zombie twist. For those not in the know, extraction shooters are all about going into a map, completing objectives, looting gear, and then actually making it out alive before you lose everything. It's tense stuff, and frankly, I reckon it could work brilliantly in VR where that immersion factor is already dialled up to eleven.
The interesting bit here is that they're building it for both VR and flatscreen from the ground up. That's become increasingly common as studios try to make the economics of VR development work - you need a bigger player base to sustain these online multiplayer games long-term. Whether you're playing on Meta Quest 3, PlayStation VR2, or just your standard gaming PC, you'll be able to jump in together.
Why This Actually Matters
Look, the VR market has been a bit volatile lately - we've seen studios like the Wanderer 2 team cancel projects due to market conditions - so it's genuinely encouraging to see an established VR studio doubling down with a new project. Triangle Factory have proven they can make solid multiplayer shooters that actually stick around and maintain player bases, which is no small feat in VR.
The zombie extraction shooter angle is clever too. Zombies are a tried-and-tested formula that people understand immediately, and co-op PvE means you're not entirely dependent on having a massive concurrent player count like traditional PvP games. Four mates fighting through hordes of undead whilst trying to extract with your loot? That's a recipe that works whether you're on Quest 2 or a high-end PC setup.
The Bottom Line
We don't have a release date yet or much in the way of gameplay details, but Triangle Factory have earned enough goodwill with their previous titles that this one's worth keeping on your radar. The extraction shooter genre hasn't been properly explored in VR yet, and adding zombies to the Breachers formula could be exactly what the franchise needs to stand out in an increasingly crowded VR shooter market. Let's just hope they nail the gameplay loop and give us enough content to keep coming back for more.
