Open-World Base-Building Action Game StarRupture Coming To Meta Quest 3

Incuvo's bringing their open-world base-building combat game StarRupture to Quest 3, and it looks properly ambitious for standalone VR.

Open-World Base-Building Action Game StarRupture Coming To Meta Quest 3

Right, here's one that's caught my attention – Incuvo has just announced they're bringing StarRupture to the Meta Quest 3, and from what I've seen, this could be a proper treat for anyone who's been crying out for more substantial open-world experiences on standalone VR. We're talking base-building, combat, and exploration all rolled into one package, which is quite ambitious for a headset that's running without a PC tethered to it.

For those unfamiliar with Incuvo, they're the Polish studio behind games like Green Hell VR and Survive, so they've got form when it comes to crafting survival experiences for virtual reality. StarRupture looks to be their most ambitious project yet – imagine if you took the base-building of something like Valheim, threw in some proper action combat, and set the whole thing in an open world you can actually explore in VR. It's one of those concepts that sounds brilliant on paper, but the real question is whether they can make it run smoothly on Quest 3's mobile chipset.

What's Actually In The Game Then?

From what Incuvo's revealed, StarRupture is all about surviving and thriving in a hostile alien environment. You'll be gathering resources, building up your base from scratch, and defending it against whatever nasty creatures the game throws at you. The combat system looks to be hands-on and physical – exactly what you want in VR – rather than just pointing and clicking. There's also meant to be a proper story campaign tying it all together, which is nice because too many survival games just dump you in and hope you make your own fun.

Why This Matters For Quest Owners

Look, I'll be straight with you – the Meta Quest 3 has been getting some decent games lately, but we're still crying out for more big, meaty experiences that you can sink dozens of hours into. Most Quest titles are either short experiences or wave shooters, so having a proper open-world game with base-building mechanics could be a bit of a game-changer. It's the sort of title that justifies the hardware, especially when you consider that Quest is now the dominant VR platform. We've seen plenty of VR releases recently, but ambitious open-world titles like this are still relatively rare on standalone headsets.

The Big Question: Can Quest 3 Handle It?

Here's my main concern – open-world games are notoriously demanding, and while the Quest 3 is impressively powerful for what it is, it's still basically running on mobile hardware. Incuvo will need to work some serious optimisation magic to get this running at a stable framerate without making too many visual compromises. They've got experience with Quest ports though, so I'm cautiously optimistic. If they can pull this off without turning everything into a blurry mess, StarRupture could be one of the standout titles of the year for Quest owners.

No word yet on an exact release date or pricing, but I'll be keeping a close eye on this one. If you're after something more substantial than your typical Quest fare, StarRupture might be worth adding to your wishlist.
